Marty Farrer-Williams
"I paint the landscape in which feelings reside"

"Grounded"
A new body of work in acrylic and Ink.
Grounded is a series of abstract paintings exploring the landscape of inner life. The terrain of feeling, memory and stillness.
These paintings began where feelings become too much to hold. Made fast and physically through urgent mark making and layered texture, each work moves toward the same place: calm. Muted earth tones, ochres, ash, and soft light carry what words often cannot. Difficult feelings, finding their ground.
First preview at Surrey Artists Open Studios 6th - 21st June.
Full exhibition coming Autumn 2026.
About Marty
Marty Farrer-Williams is a painter based in Haslemere, Surrey, working in acrylic and ink to explore the inner worlds of feeling and state of mind.
Eight years ago, in the wake of personal mental health struggles, Marty began to paint — not from observation, but from the inside out. What started as an instinctive act became a practice: first figures that gave form to difficult feelings, and now these abstract landscapes — the terrain in which those states of mind reside.
The work arrives fast and physically when it comes. Mark making, layered texture, the urgency of feeling that is almost too much — and then, gradually, the palette brings it home. Muted ochres, soft light, grounded earth tones that carry calm and quiet hope through the paint itself.
Marty has exhibited with the Haslemere Art Society, shown at Boomer Gallery London, and held a solo exhibition at Gallery Thirteen, Haslemere.
