Alison Hunt

Artist Statement

Alison is a contemporary artist based on the Surrey/Hampshire border. Working from the solitude of her garden studio she creates mesmerising abstract paintings reflective of time spent absorbed in nature.

The fluidity of materials, shapes and colours allows Alison to take a chance on alchemy and the unexpected, almost in opposition to the structure and order of daily family life. In doing so she captures the magic of the memory of a place, fleeting glimpses that stay with us as we go about the everyday.

Alison’s paintings are not planned but instinctively develop as she builds up layers of acrylic glazes and inks on a prepared textural surface. Working from black and white photographs that she takes on her journeys, Alison uses the sculptural lines of the landscape as a starting point and then lets the flow of the paint take hold.

Her work is not representative of a specific place but allows the viewer to develop an emotional attachment to a painting through their own experiences.
